The Club was formed in 1964 and were formerly known as Haig Social FC and played in the west cumberland league, better known now as the cumberland county league where they played their home games on the Big waithe ground at Haig pit.

The name change came when the pit was forced into closure in 1986 we were forced to move to the Recreation ground on Coach road where a new club with changing facilities were built and named The Whitehaven Miners Welfare Social Club, hence the change in name of the football club.

In 1984 a second team (open age team) where formed and the club also joined the Carlisle & District league up until 2001 when a lack of numbers forcing the club to pull out off the Carlisle & district League.

In 1990/91 season the club had its most successful year winning all that the west cumberland league had on offer,The League Championship (winning all but 1 drawn game), Whitehaven Cup, Benovolent Cup, Conway Cup.

The youth set up was started in 1993 with a under 8s team in a newly formed west cumbria youth League they were the first team to win this U/8s league. Since then the youth set up as gone from strength to strength with teams now at every age group.
